PFF Elections

Hello Everyone! When it’s January and the beginning of the Spring semester at Palomar College, then it must be elections time for the PFF (Palomar Faculty Federation)!!

The PFF will be holding its elections from March 28-April 18, 2012, for the following Executive Board positions for the two-year period of May 2012 through May 2014:

  • Full-time faculty co-president
  • Part-time faculty co-president
  • One full-time faculty Executive Board member-at-large
  • One full-time faculty Executive Board member/Treasurer
  • Two part-time faculty Executive Board members-at-large
PFF members in good standing will receive a NOMINATIONS mailing at their home addresses the week of January 30. As stated in the PFF Local 6161 Constitution, only PFF members in good standing may nominate and vote in the election. A member in good standing is defined as one who has “submitted a validated membership application and who has paid dues for two months prior to the election.” So, if you do not receive a PFF Nominations mailing next week, then you are not a PFF member—you have not completed a membership application and it is not on file in the PFF office.

As luck would have it―and this could be the best news you hear this week―you may complete and submit a PFF Membership Form by JANUARY 31, 2012, and be eligible to vote in the March election!!

As a reminder: the PFF has two categories of membership:

  • MEMBERS who enjoy the full rights and many benefits of the CFT/AFT and representation of the PFF including the right to nominate and vote in PFF elections
  • AGENCY FEE members who are represented by the PFF but do not enjoy full rights and benefits and who do not have the right to nominate or vote.
Membership vs. Agency Fee

Though all full-time and part-time faculty have monthly union dues deducted from their paychecks, these deductions do not automatically mean you are a MEMBER of the Palomar Faculty Federation (PFF). To become a MEMBER and gain the additional benefits of membership, you must have a PFF membership form on file in the PFF office.

Bottom Line: Same monthly deductions for both, but many more benefits as a union MEMBER! If you are not sure of your membership status—member or agency fee—please contact Administrative Assistant Deborah Pomeranz. Completing a membership application takes only a few minutes and reaps so many rewards—check it out at http://www.palomarfacfed.org/; click on the Join Us tab at the top of the page. The PFF negotiates for ALL faculty in the areas of salary, benefits, and working conditions; support your faculty union and become an active member—your participation on a variety of campus committees is needed! Can we count on your membership—and, your vote in the Spring 2012 election? Judy Judy Dolan, Elections Co-Chair
