Negotiations Update 12 December 2024

It is our second negotiations meeting since the sunshines articles were approved by the board and we are ready! We presented our initial proposal for Article 20, discussed the academic calendars, the success of our increased part-time office hours, and feminine hygiene products on campus.

Here is an overview of negotiations today:

🟢PFF’s Article 20 Proposal

The focus of our proposal was on Article 20.10, part-time preferential consideration. We presented a more streamlined system to calculate base load using FTE with cleaner calculations, examples, and language throughout. We are excited at the prospect of a more unified and transparent approach to priority and preferential consideration.

🗓️Calendars:

Both Mandy Horn and VP Recalde joined us to discuss the design and development of the calendars. VP Pedroza reminded us that the District is interested in providing accurate calendars instead of rushing the process.

VP Recalde shared the changes to the Student Attendance Accounting Manual (SAAM) which may influence our calendar negotiations in the future. Interim VP Yatooma recommends that we shift to the new accounting in 26-27 to allow for any changes at the CCCCO.

For the 25-26 and 26-27 calendars, the District shared that their proposals will likely still include an overlap between the winter intersession and Spring semester in January 2026. They don’t anticipate another dangling Monday in Fall of 2025, but may see a dangling Monday after commencement in Spring 2026. They did not have drafts of the calendars to share with us.

Other Discussion Items:

  • Christine Winterle reported a positive round for the new process of office hours. She is communicating with all faculty who reported fewer office hours than their max. She mentioned that having two deadlines has been a challenge on their end.

  • Interim VP Yatooma shared his plan to stock more restrooms on campus with feminine hygiene products.

  • PFF Treasurer Joel Glassman identified an error in retro pay. VP Pedroza and Interim VP Yatooma agreed that this was an error and committed to correcting all faculty who were impacted by this error.
