Happy Final Week of the Semester! While many of us are heading toward a well-earned summer break, your negotiations team is getting ready for a full summer of bargaining and advocacy on behalf of faculty.Â
📌 Article 16 Initial Proposal (District)
The District shared their initial proposal for Article 16 with the same concerning language as they included in Article 15: this proposal is contingent on PFF agreeing to no reopeners for Article 15 (Compensation) or Article 16 (Benefits) through 2027. Rest assured, PFF has no intention of negotiating away its future bargaining rights. The other major proposal here was the introduction of a new healthcare PPO option without a deductible to encourage proactive care. PFF will continue to review the impacts, but it appears to be an alternative plan faculty can opt into with no negative impacts on the existing plan options.Â
âś… MOU_DRC Chair Extension
In 2024, an MOU was signed to establish a 40% reassigned time position for the DRC Chair. This MOU has been extended each academic year with support from the department and the DRC Director. With every attempt to codify the position, the District has asked for more time to evaluate the position with the Director. This year, the position was extended for the Fall 2026 semester. PFF intends to codify this position in Article 12, which is currently open.Â
📌 MOU_Learning Outcomes Taskforce PT Seats
PFF presented an MOU to compensate part-time faculty seats on a new shared governance taskforce connected to curriculum recommendations for the Spring 2027. During the conversation, the District expressed concern over offloading full-time institutional service to part-time faculty. PFF emphasized that taskforces like this have strong full-time representation but have historically had limited part-time representation, which is concerning given the significant number of classes taught by part-time faculty. Part-time faculty voices are essential in shared governance spaces.Â
Discussion
Dental Assisting Accreditation MOUÂ - this agenda item was tabled as the District was able to postpone accreditation as we navigate changes in faculty roles.
Department Bylaws - PFF and the District once again agreed that bylaws can’t supersede the contract.Â
Online Paystubs - PFF will review the proposed changes to our paystub system to ensure no negative impacts to faculty.Â
Shredding - The District has a shredding service they use regularly. PFF continues to request a similar service and system for faculty to shred student work.Â
Revitalization Update - PFF continues to advocate for District investment in program revitalization to ensure this process is supported.
Summer Schedules - We set our schedules for the summer to continue negotiations.Â
Your Negotiations Team will continue to work our way through the sunshined articles this summer. We scheduled our meetings with the District as well as our own prep sessions throughout the summer, and we look forward to continuing this work together and representing the priorities of our faculty.
