Today we met with the District for a shorter session to hear the District’s counters and address a few pressing concerns.
📌Article 15 & MOU_Accessibility Remediation
The District was not prepared to counter at this time.
📌Article 16
District’s counter proposal: the District shared their counter proposal and we are very close to agreeing. Our last pending items involve overlapping coverage and averaging loads for part-time healthcare eligibility.
✅Appendix E
The District agreed to our proposal to separate the Medical Benefits Options table into Appendix E so that it can be adjusted each year regardless of the timeline for reopeners.
📌MOU_ECELS
The District presented a proposal to add back a column that had been dropped from the ECELS salary schedule (Column A) to reintroduce the part-time assistant teacher column.
📌Calendars
Our contract requires the District to propose a new calendar by September 1 for the two-year planning cycle. We reminded the District of this language and requested calendar proposals for the 27-28 academic year.
Other Discussion Items:
Dual Enrollment - the District confirmed that we will be negotiating Dual Enrollment on October 9th
Short-term hourly (STH) updates - The District confirmed that they will present more information about the role of short-term hourly on September 18th.
Changes in payroll personnel - the District is working with PFF to make sure member dues are collected effectively amidst changes in personnel.
AB-1705 - We signed the MOU for AB 1705 coordinators one month ago and agreed to a decrease in Math’s reassigned time with an explicit understanding that any additional work will be compensated through Time & Effort reports with preapproval from the appropriate Dean. Given that the reduction in reassigned time was due to a budget, we asked to see the remaining funds left in the budget. The District provided us with a Projected Spending for the final year of AB-1705. Notably, the Projected Spending budget did not include a category for compensation via Time & Effort should the coordinators be required to do work beyond their scope for this year.
Open Enrollment Dates - for Fall 2025, the District honors the 4 weeks noted in the contract for open enrollment. This means open enrollment will be open until October 7th. The District’s most recent proposal for Article 16 includes clarification for future open enrollment dates.
Benefits - we continue to ask the District to explore options for part-time faculty to enroll in the Dental PPO plans. The District has yet to provide these options.
Minors in the classroom - We continue to ask the District if there can be age identifiers for faculty to know if there are minors in their class. They are looking into this as well as a better solution for faculty teaching in Dual Enrollment so that we aren’t violating AP 5011.
We look forward to continued collaboration with District as we advocate for all your compensation and workload needs 💪
Next Meeting: Thursday, September 18th
Signing off—but still here for every comma, clause, and cause.
