Though our meeting was shorter this morning, our agenda was packed with important discussion items.
2027-28 Academic Calendar PFF Counterproposal #1:
Based on the feedback PFF received from our survey, we agreed to the majority of the proposed calendar. There were certain exceptions applied to CTE programs that allowed students to take classes outside of the summer schedule. However, this had negative impacts on students' financial aid eligibility. In our counter, we proposed a CTE-specific summer track that runs from May 31-June 25 to accommodate students who need to complete courses without interruption and enter the workforce more quickly.
CBA 2022-2025 Edits
PFF presented some final edits to the CBA now that the reopeners have been ratified. Once the District has looked at the edits, the most updated version of the CBA will be posted to our PFF website.
Discussion:
Clarification on Accessibility MOU - The District is finalizing a form for part-time faculty to attest to the four hours of accessibility remediation work per unique course completed in the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters in order to receive compensation per the MOU. Once this form is complete, it will be sent to part-time faculty in order to process those stipends.
Window Coverings - The District shared a recommendation by our insurance that faculty office windows should remain uncovered. PFF requested more information before the District disseminates this recommendation, namely safety concerns, freedom of speech, and the lack of policies to enforce this. We ensured that no changes will be made without collaboration on the issue with PFF. If you have any concerns about this issue, please feel free to contact
Fraud and IP Addresses - Adrianne Garay-Lee, our Director of Financial Aid, joined us to discuss a specific identity fraud situation that may warrant reviewing IP addresses through Canvas. Per the contract, the District will share the letter from the Office of the Inspector General proving this to be an emergent situation requiring immediate action before contacting faculty. Notably, given that Article 20 is open in negotiations, the District shared that they are interested in making the language in 20.8.1 more “efficient.”
Football Coach Pilot Program - After receiving feedback from our coaches and faculty, we shared our support for a pilot program with the District. We asked that the District present an MOU to negotiate removing the Football Head Coach from Appendix H for a two-year period. Once we receive this MOU, we can negotiate the success measures of the pilot program with continued feedback from faculty.
Impacts of new attendance accounting method - PFF alerted the District to potential workload concerns and FTE calculation changes with the new attendance accounting method. The District will confer with Instruction before our next meeting.
Workload for BA - PFF announced that we would be bargaining workload considerations for baccalaureate instruction.
Vocational Salary Credit - We continue to navigate the changes from our big win for vocational salary credit. We are using two test cases with more complicated verification in order to set a standard for future vocational faculty with certificates that don’t have verifiable hours. This will make for a more efficient process for faculty in those fields to receive appropriate and commensurate credit.
Our next meeting will include assigning articles for initial proposals so that we can work through our sunshined articles efficiently.
